This book covers everything from the mundane, like how the file explorer in Windows XP works, to the complex, like how the scheduler works in UNIX-systems. It obviously been written to give the impression of a easy reader. There is a lot of padding between the facts, and quite often a fact that could be presented in one sentence has been dedicated a whole paragraph. Thus this is not the book for people who want to learn things fast. It probably is a good book for beginners though.

The book is filled with illustrations. The illustrations work well and normally give a good overview of the topics. However, all of the screen shots of the different systems seem like a waste of space. You get the feeling that the author is trying to make the topic seem very simple by making it possible to read a lot of pages in a very short while. This is the type of book you read from start to finish.

If you have any experience what so ever in this topic, skip this book. If you are a beginner this is a good point of entry.
